Eligard Uses : Leuprolide is a synthetic hormone used in the treatment of prostate cancer in men.

How to Use Eligard : Eligard is given as an injection under the skin (SC) and must be used under close medical supervision. Inject Eligard into a different area each time you receive a dose. This product slowly releases the medication into the bloodstream and is given at various intervals. The dosing frequency depends on which product was prescribed by your doctor. If you are directed to inject Eligard yourself, make sure you know exactly how to use this and how often. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are uncertain or have any questions. Allow the product to reach room temperature before using. Once mixed, the product must be given within 30 minutes. If not injected within 30 minutes, throw the product out and prepare another syringe/dose. Do not stop using Eligard without your doctor s permission. Learn how to store and discard needles and medical supplies safely. Consult your pharmacist.

Eligard Side Effects : Eligard may cause nausea, hot flashes, night sweats or increased sweating; bone, joint or muscle pain; reduced sexual desire or function, mental/mood changes, headache, dizziness, blurred vision, weight gain, inflamed gums, upset stomach, hair loss, trouble swallowing, persistent pain at injection site, acne or difficulty urinating. Notify your doctor promptly if these symptoms persist or worsen. Notify your doctor promptly if you develop any of the following symptoms: fever, unusual weakness, abdominal pain, swelling or pain in breast, testicular or prostate pain (men). Tell your doctor immediately if this highly unlikely but very serious side effect occur: back pain. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to Eligard, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, breathing trouble. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Eligard Precautions : Before using Eligard, tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: urinary problems, bone diseases, cancer/lesions of the spine, any allergies you may have. Limit alcohol intake, as it may intensify drug side effects. Caution is advised when performing tasks requiring alertness (e.g., driving), as Eligard may cause dizziness. Some patients may experience a worsening of symptoms during the first weeks of therapy with leuprolide. Symptoms that may worsen include bone pain, numbness or tingling in the hands or feet, bloody urine, inability to urinate, or back pain. If these symptoms persist or worsen, contact your doctor immediately. Leuprolide should not be used during pregnancy. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. Discuss birth control methods with your doctor. It is not known if leuprolide is excreted into breast milk. Because the effects of leuprolide on a nursing infant are unknown, do not breast-feed. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Eligard Interactions : Tell your doctor of all over-the-counter and prescription medication you may use including: megestrol, flutamide. Certain lab tests may be affected by Eligard. Inform all your healthcare providers you use Eligard. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

Overdose of Eligard : If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

Eligard : It is very important you do not miss any doses. However, if you do miss a dose, contact your doctor promptly to establish a new schedule.

Storing Eligard : Refrigerate between 36 and 46 degrees F (2-8 degrees C). After mixing, discard any unused solution. Do not freeze. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.
